The Water Cube was designed through the combined effort of several separate bodies:
PTW Architects Architecture,
CSCEC International Design and
Structural Engineers Arup.
The build was completed by CSCEC (China State Construction Engineering Corporation).
The Water Cube Arena has been described by athletes as the "fastest" swimming pool in the world.
This has been attributed to the extra depth, being 3m deep which is a meter deeper than the standard Olympic championship pool.
Seemingly, deeper pools reduce water disturbance, which in theory should allow for faster times.
